Embrace Happiness by Stacey Kingman

Vintage summer. That’s what I was inking when I stamped this distressed orange harlequin pattern over yellow cardstock. I added some Old Paper Distress Ink on the edges to finish and to give it the old-time feel I wanted this card to have. I topped it with a shiny, glossy flower center made with a punched, inked cardstock circle covered in Glossy Accents.

Summertime Card by Tiffani Smith

This month I had the opportunity to take a Copic Certification Class here in Salt Lake City. I learned so much! Up until then I had been nervous to use my markers. They are serious art pens and are just a tad (*ahem* a lot) more expensive than the trusty Crayola's that I have been using. At the course I learned there is nothing to be afraid of. They are nearly indestructible and oh so fun to use! I have seen stamped images here and there that are incredibly colored and was so intimidated. Now I know the secret to their success. The key ingredients are great stamp ink, colored with great markers on great paper. I am here to tell you that Prism Simply Smooth is the greatest of them all. It makes it effortless to get good results.
To make this card I stamped the bird image with Momento Ink onto the Natural Smooth paper and colored it in with my Copics. I then cut it out, rounded the corners, and added a little bit of sparkle with some Tattered Angels Gold spray. (Which is hard to see in this picture, but in person makes a big impact.) I made the flower by punching three different sizes of scalloped circles, and cut slits between each scallop to create petals. Next I pinked the edges of a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Blush Red Dark Prismatic. I inked the edges of everything and adhered it all to the card. To finish I added some ribbon and buttons, I drew lines on the red square and it felt complete.

Reach for the Stars by Angela Ploegman

To create this layout, I created my own patterned paper by dropping the metallic alcohol inks onto the Black Prismatics cardstock from about shoulder height, creating round drops and splashes of various dimensions. This paper reminded me of the stars in the night sky, which suggested to me a page titled, "Reach for the Stars".
I also used some chalk ink to change the grey foam letters to a lighter color and to outline the edges of my ink drop patterned paper. I edged the Deep Blue Mirri stars with Ranger Distress Ink in Black Soot, so the white cardstock edge wasn't visible against the black background. Best of all, any extra ink on the Mirri Cardstock just wiped right off!!

You Make Me Smile by Keri Lee Sereika

On this card I used a fun technique called "The bandana technique" developed and made widely popular by artist and designer Robin Beam. The jist of the technique is to simply stamp your image onto cardstock and highlight using a white gel pen. By adding dots, dashes, swirls and lines over the entire surface of the stamped cardstock you are left with a fun bandana like effect. Enjoy!

“Ham” layout by Amanda Probst

It’s difficult with a photograph to really show you the subtle texture that I added to the title (which I love). First, I stamped a woodgrain pattern on the yellow cardstock. Then, I ran it through my Silhouette to cut out the word. I adhered that to a blue piece of cardstock and cut around it with a Fiskars fingertip trimmer thing (love that!). Next, I added Glossy Accents here and there along the woodgrain pattern. And, finally, I raised the whole thing with foam squares.

For the stars, I stamped a dot pattern with yellow ink onto my orange cardstock. The yellow doesn’t show up overly well but did add a wee bit of texture. (If I were doing it again, I might either add embossing powder or use a different color. But. I didn’t want the dots to overpower things.) After stamping the dot pattern, I ran my whole strip of paper through my new Fiskars crimper (I finally bought one the other day!) and then punched out the stars. Again, I added some random Glossy Accents over some of the dots (I love Glossy Accents). And, voila:

BK031-F Perla (grey)
G377-E Classic Yellowgreen
Y092-D Classic Yellow
OR141-D Papaya Puree Dark

Simply Smooth is my all time favorite card sotck for both printing and Copics; so, today I am inking things up on my Simply Smooth white card stock. I printed the digital image and then colored it with Copic markers. I also added a bit of ink for the stamped greeting just for good measure ;)

What's Cookin'? by Jeanne Streiff

Simply Smooth and Copic markers work beautifully together. You get vibrant colors, no bleeding lines and nice smooth blends.
I stamped the boy and phrase on Simply Smooth White (the BEST white paper ever for Copic markers!) with Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I used Copic markers to color the image. The "sky" was sponged with Broken China Ranger Distress ink.
I'm often asked what color Copic markers I use for skin. For lighter skin (like today's project) I first colored the face, arms and legs with E000 (Pale Fruit Pink) and then do a little shading with E00 (Skin White). I use my E000 marker to go back and blend any lines. For the cheeks I put a spot of R01 (Pinkish Vanilla) on the cheeks and then use my E000 marker to blend.
Here are the Prism papers that I used:

Prism 4045-C Simply Smooth White
Prism Prismatics W031-D White, BK28 Black, R095-E Classic Red
Supplies-
Stamps: Chillin' & Grillin' - Lizzie Anne Designs
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Ranger Distress Broken China

Be Amazing by Karen Shand
.jpg)
What were you inking, round two :) For this challenge I choose to use my embossing folder to create pattern & dimension on my layout. I started with White Prismatic cardstock and the Spots & Dots embossing folder, which I ran through my die cut machine. Next I went over the entire embossed surface with Frost White Pigment Ink and once dry, I added Sour Apple chalk ink to the top. You could go right to the chalk ink or only use pigment ink, but I wanted to soften the color to better match the teal in the Prismatic cardstock. If you would rather have the background inked, simple cover the top of your embossing folder with ink before you run it through your die cut machine. For this method, I have found that pigment inks work best if you want a darker background.
Next, I cut out a free hand sun from Intense Yellow cardstock. I used the same method as above, first I embossed and then I applied chalk ink in Amber Clay to make it stand out. I applied chalk ink to the other two circles that make up the sun as well as the other lighter circles on the page to help them stand out against the background.
Did you wonder what the little piece of inked cardstock in the corner is behind the sun? Well that was my test scrap of cardstock to see if I liked the color ink I was going to use on the project. I needed a little something in the corner and I liked the curve of the cardstock. It just goes to show, that you should save those scraps!! ;)

“Happy Birday” by Jing-Jing Nickel
I always make a card or two as soon as I am done with making a layout, since I have all the coordinating scraps right in front of me already. So I made this “birday” card before I “cleaned” up my mess from making the “Take One for the Scream” layout. (In reality, I never clean anything up; it’s more of a degree of messiness.)
It just so happened that we received a cute outfit for DD’s birthday and I had to recreate the little bird on the outfit, and here is the resulting card. I used black ink to ink every piece of the bird to give it a defining edge. I also used a black marker to trace lightly around the Baby Blue Dark cardstock. Oh the little bird is so cute I can just stir fry him for dinner!
Disclaimer: No bird, this or any other, was harmed in making this card.

For this layout I really wanted to show how you can emphasize and or create texture using ink! As you can see the top right edge of the layout is stamped with Frost White Pigment Ink and then embossed with a bit of Opalescent embossing powder...on the bottom panels of Black Prismatics I first dry embossed them using an embossing folder and then took the same Frost White Pigment pad and lightly swiped the entire surface with the flat edge of the pad to really bring out the embossing texture. I used a Copic Multiliner to add the fine line of dots between the top left strips of Rosso cardstock; And finally I used ink once again to stamp Polka Parts Polka Dots between the second set of Rosso cardstock strips as well as on the White label at the right of the photo. I hope this somehow inspires you to try taking out your inks to see how you can add interest and texture to your cardstock! :)

Summer Card by Tiffani Smith

The weather has been strange here in Utah this year. One minute it is hot and dry the next cool and raining. Not our normal dry heat, for sure. It has made for some crazy little league baseball games but is doing wonders for my flowers. I love summer flowers and wanted to recreate some of what I am seeing out my bedroom window for this card. First I ran a piece of Butter Cream Prismatic through my Cuttlebug to create the houndstooth texture. I then lightly inked it with a Marvy Heritage pad. I like the texture I get from this technique and it doesn't hurt that it is super easy. I then drew nearly straight lines three times around the edge to create a more finished look. Next I punched the flowers, bent up the petals and inked the edges. After that I attached the strip of ribbon, placed my flowers and added the pearls in the centers to finish it off. I love this card and I cant wait to make a few more to have on hand for the rest of the season.

My Heroes by Jeanne Streiff

I thought I would show off my two oldest boys today. Between them there were 3 tours in Iraq, a tour in Saudi Arabia, and Embassy duty in Tunis and Germany. Both of the boys decided that career military was not for them and they are now settled in with families and civilian jobs. We are happy to have them close by and safe.
I played around with both Simply Smooth White and Prismatic White for the printing on this project. Both printed beautifully. The digital patterned paper I ended up using for this project was printed on Prismatic White. I really liked the texture (I love to sponge on Prismatics) on the finished paper.
The title and names were printed on the computer on Sugar Cream Prismatic. I used a Copic marker (E31 Brick Beige) to do the shadowing on the words. All the papers were sponged with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink and then stitched on the sewing machine. I assembled after stitching.

“Rainbow” by Amanda Probst.

Want to know how I did that?
Printed the title and journaling on the white cardstock. (I love how nicely things print on the Prism texture, btw.)
Painted a thin layer of Mod Podge on the bottom half of the page and let it dry. (This took up the most time altogether but wasn’t really too long).
Dropped various colors of alcohol inks on the Mod Podged area and used a brayer to simply roll it out randomly. (Yup, totally easy but looks crazy vivid and wet…perfect! You have to work quickly with alcohol inks, as they dry FAST.)
Trimmed the white cardstock to mount on the Intense Teal cardstock, stuck those together and added the photos, mirri strip (that was first punched using a Fiskars border punch), and Intense Orange strip.
Colored in the printed title using Copic markers.

Added quick outlines around three of the photos using a black pen. (There’s something about using a pen to outline things…my layouts don’t seem complete without this step, lol.)
Ta da! That’s it. Altogether, I used four types of ink…alcohol inks, Copic marker ink, printer ink and black marker. Whew.

Blue Bird by AJ Otto

I am a stay at home mom of 2 overly active kids and I stamp in my spare time. (Which means I have to be creative to find spare time ;) I love scrapping, stamping, cooking, photography, and am attempting to garden a bit. I lean towards a less is more style in crafting, I love clean lines and open space in my projects, and shy away from lots of embellishments. I currently design for Unity Stamp Company, Lizzie Anne Designs, Jacksonbelle Embellishments, and Flower-Soft. I feel so lucky I get to be able to work with Prism for the next few months, and just love playing with their papers- it rocks!
What were you inking?
For my card I used one ink pad and several copic markers. I inked up the bird with rich cocoa onto simply smooth white and cut it out. I colored it in with B91 and B34 Copic markers, the branch was colored in with the E55. The nest is the rich cocoa stamped off, and the leaves are rich cocoa full strength.

Prism cardstock and chalk ink are definitely two items I reach for over and over again when creating a layout. Sometimes I forget that a good picture and just a couple of staples are all you need to create a really wonderful project. I decided to get creative with the inking assignment and made my own striped paper. I simply cut a 1" x 12" strip of White Prismatic cardstock and applied different colors of Chalk Ink in varying widths. This is a great way to add a custom look to your page. The texture of the Prism cardstock adds depth to the strips. I also inked the edges of my die cuts and punch shapes to help give them dimension and to pop them off the page.

It's a Girl by Angela Ploegman
I started scrapbooking in 1999 when I moved to Iowa and was looking for ways to meet people and socialize...I started by scrapping my travels abroad and haven't looked back...now I love to scrap the everyday things in addition to my children, my nieces and my travels! I currently design for two manufacturers, Reminisce and Xyron and my most recent print publications include Simply Handmade and Stamping, Scrapbooking & Stationary. My favorite products are anything that adds texture and dimension to my layouts or projects. My main inspiration for projects is color and style...I flip through alot of magazines and even Target ads for color and design ideas...mall walking and all the window displays can also inspire me!
I'm married to my husband of nine years and we have two little ones--my son is 5 and my daughter is 1.
With this month's theme being "What were you Inking", I thought I would spend some quality time with my ink jet printer for this new baby card for my neighbor (who's due in 2 weeks). I created the sentiment block in my photo editing software and also printed the same pink color onto the White Linen and the embossed Jade Spring cardstock pieces...I was so nervous about running the Jade Spring through my printer as I though for sure the ink would smear as the paper has such a sheen to it. But the paper took the ink beautifully, drying just as fast as regular cardstock and even better, the sheen of the embossing shone through the ink!

“Take One for the Scream” by Jing-Jing Nickel

I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. My teenage years were spent in Dakar, Senegal, a West African nation. I went to college in Minnesota and hold a graduate degree in mathematics from the University of Arizona. Now I work full time in the Twin Cities, MN, as an I.T. engineer. In my spare time, I scrapbook, scrapbook, and scrapbook: my family, my trips, and my family on trips.
After nine years of scrapbooking, I finally began submitting to publications in June 2008. You will find me in Memory Makers, Scrapbook Trends, Scrapbooking and Beyond, Cards, and Creating Keepsakes.
I am extremely excited to be a guest blogger for Prism Papers; I look forward to sharing with you a little piece of me and my life. Find me on my blog: http://thislittleartofmine.blogspot.com/
Now that you’ve been thoroughly entertained, let’s get down to business and count the inks I’ve used here: ink pads, ink pen, and printer ink. The lightly textured Prism cardstock is just perfect for my little ink jet printer. The words came out crispy and clear, I am hooked!
If you haven’t tried the Prism exclusive papers, you are missing out!! The texture reminds me of extremely fine corduroy. The colors are, what does Emeril say, “BAM BAM!” Needlessly to say, I have a lot of new favorites!
